This evening, I was thrilled to attend Joe Stein's The Body Beautiful. Although, very dated, this show was charming and sweet. A good old fashioned musical with a happy ending. (A different kind of HAPPY ENDING than the RITZ)
The entire cast of this show was fantastic but there were standouts:
1. Megan Lawrence was hysterical in the role of Gloria! Her comedic timing, dancing and facial expressions were priceless.
2. Capathia Jenkins has proven what a stellar actress and singer she is. In Martin Short she stole the show as well as (MIS)UNDERSTANDING MAMMY- The Hattie McDaniel Story which got Capathia a Drama Desk nomination. Capathia had a small role in this show but she stood out in the crowd. Her voice is nothing short of remarkable. She was robbed of the Drama Desk last year, and deserved a TONY for her performance in Martin Short where she stole the show. Capathia is destined for great things if someone could find her the perfect role. I would love to see her in the WIZ on Broadway.
3. Laura Marie Duncan wowed me singing the lead role of Ann. I look forward to seeing her in many productions on and off Broadway. She has a gorgeous voice and it shined in this production.
Photo coverage of the talkback coming soon.
