MY INTERVIEW WITH STEW!

http://corinescorner.com/media/DramaDesk2008/stew.html

If you get a chance and you are in NYC you should head over to the IFC theater and see PASSING STRANGE. It is very real and you can even see sweat! I am sort of sad they had no way of removing all the sweat but it is REAL and moving. I just wish the audience was not so uptight. I wish they would have sing along to PASSING STRANGE.
Loved it!

I hope they sell it as I want to own it. My Birthday is Sept 9th if any readers want to get me a present. PS they need to do this on September 13th at Avenue Q.

KERRY BUTLER JOINS ROCK OF AGES.

Kerry Butler is going into ROCK OF AGES!!!!!

FOR SIX MONTH LIMITED ENGAGEMENT Tony Award nominated Broadway star, Kerry Butler (Xanadu, Hairspray) will star in the five-time Tony nominated hit musical, ROCK OF AGES at Broadway’s Brooks Atkinson Theatre (256 West 47th Street) as “Sherrie” beginning Monday, September 21, 2009 for a six month limited engagement for six performances a week. The “Sherrie” understudy will play the role during both performances on Sundays.

Constantine Maroulis continues his Tony Award Nominated performance staring in the show as “Drew”. Kerry Butler most recently starred on Broadway, and received Tony Award and Drama League Award nominations for her critically acclaimed role as ‘Kira” in Xanadu.

A versatile musical theatre comedienne, Ms. Butler has made an indelible mark on Broadway playing such characters as Audrey in Little Shop of Horrors (Outer Critics Circle Award nom.), the original “Penny” in Hairspray (Clarence Derwent Award; Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle noms.), “Belle” in Beauty and the Beast (Belle), “Eponine” in Les Misérables and “Ms. Jones” in Blood Brothers. Off Broadway, she originated the roles of “Shelley” in Bat Boy: The Musical, “Maddy” in Prodigal, “Isabelle” in Miracle Brothers and “DeeDee” in the musical The Opposite of Sex. Kerry has also made numerous television appearances which include “Lipstick Jungle”, “Cupid”, CBS’s “Second Honeymoon” (with Roma Downey), “Another World,” “Sesame Street,” “Hometown” and “One Life to Live” (Claudia Reston). She recently recorded her first solo CD, Faith, Trust and Pixie Dust, on PS Classics and performed as “Brenda” in the 2009 world premiere of the musical “Catch Me If You Can” this summer in Seattle.

“Kerry is one of my favorite Broadway performers and I cannot tell you how lucky we feel to have her,” says lead producer Carl Levin. "She's funny, she's beautiful, and most importantly she can sing like a rock star." In 1987 on the Sunset Strip, a small-town girl met a big-city dreamer – and in L.A.’s most legendary rock club, they fell in love to the greatest songs of the ‘80’s. It’s ROCK OF AGES, a hilarious, feel-good love story told through the hit songs of iconic rockers Journey, Styx, REO Speedwagon, Foreigner, Pat Benatar, Whitesnake, and many more.

Don’t miss this awesomely good time where big hair meets big dreams and the result totally wails. The show is written by Chris D’Arienzo, directed by Kristin Hanggi and choreographed by Kelly Devine. Also featured in the cast are Adam Dannheisser, Mitchell Jarvis, Michele Mais, Lauren Molina, Don Stephenson, Wesley Taylor, Ericka Hunter, Jeremy Jordan, Michael Minarik, Angel Reed, Bahiyah Sayyed-Gaines, Becca Tobin, Katherine Tokarz, Andre Ward, Tad Wilson and Jeremy Woodard.

Rockin’ in the on-stage band, ARSENAL, are Music Director/ keyboardist Henry Aronson, lead guitarist Joel Hoekstra (Night Ranger), drummer Jon Weber, bassist Winston Roye and guitar player David Gibbs, who also wrote the original arrangements. The Music Supervision, Arrangements & Orchestrations are by Ethan Popp. Scenic design is by Beowulf Boritt, costume design is by Tony Nominee Gregory Gale, lighting design is by Jason Lyons, sound design is by Peter Hylenski, and projection design is by Zachary Borovay. New Line Records released the Original Broadway Cast Recording digitally on June 2nd and in stores nationwide on July 7th. In the spirit of the original musical, album was helmed by seasoned hard rock musicians and producers, the album was mixed and engineered by Mike Barbiero (Guns n Roses’ “Appetite for Destruction”, Metallica’s “And Justice For All”) and produced by David Gibbs (Original Arrangements for “ROCK OF AGES,” Gigolo Aunts, Street Sweeper), executive produced by Janet Billig Rich, Hillary Weaver and Kurt Deutsch/SH-K-BOOM Records and co-produced by Ethan Popp (Music Supervision, Arrangements and Orchestrations for “ROCK OF AGES”).

Tickets can be purchased via Ticketmaster.com/ 212-307-4100 or in person at The Brooks Atkinson Box Office (256 West 47th Street). The performance schedule is Monday at 8pm, Tuesday at 7pm, Thursday at 8pm, Friday at 8pm, Saturday at 2pm & 8pm and Sunday at 2pm & 7pm. www.RockofAgesMusical.com

EQUALITY FOR ALL AND WE ALL HOPE GAVIN CREEL'S ANKLE HEALS SOON!!

NEW YORK’S THEATER COMMUNITY COMES TOGETHER FOR EQUALITY

THE PUBLIC THEATER, THE CAST OF HAIR, BROADWAY IMPACT & BC/EFA
TO HOLD A MOBILIZATION RALLY
IN ADVANCE OF OCTOBER’S
NATIONAL EQUALITY MARCH ON WASHINGTON

OSKAR EUSTIS, CLEVE JONES, GAVIN CREEL, DAVID STONE
AND MORE SCHEDULED TO SPEAK

DELACORTE THEATER, CENTRAL PARK
FRIDAY, AUGUST 28 AT 2:30 PM

New York, NY (8/20/2009) – Oskar Eustis, Artistic Director of The Public Theater, announced today that The Public Theater, the cast of HAIR, Broadway Impact and Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS (BC/EFA) are holding a mobilization rally for New York’s theater community in advance of October’s National Equality March. The rally will be held at Central Park’s Delacorte Theater (enter at 81st Street and Central Park West or 79th Street and Fifth Avenue) on Friday, August 28 from 2:30-3:30 PM and will be open to the public. Noteworthy members of both the civil rights and theater communities will be on hand to speak, including Oskar Eustis, legendary gay rights activist Cleve Jones, HAIR star Gavin Creel and producer David Stone.

“The theater community has always been a force for change. This rally will give us the chance to come together to spread the message of Equality and hopefully encourage others to join us at the National Equality March in October,” said Gavin Creel.

The producers of the Tony Award-winning revival of HAIR previously announced that, in an unprecedented move, they are canceling the show’s Sunday, October 11th performance so that the entire cast can join the National Equality March in Washington, D.C.

Last May, civil rights activist David Mixner called for a national march on Washington in support of equal rights for LGBT people, calling on prominent LGBT community leaders Cleve Jones and Torie Osborne to execute and organize it. Days later in Fresno, California, at a rally of approximately 5000 people from all walks of life protesting the California Supreme Court’s decision to uphold Prop. 8, Cleve Jones stepped to the podium and committed to Mixner’s plea. At that moment Jones’ organization, Equality Across America, was born, along with its first mission: the National Equality March. Between now and October, Equality Across America will develop grassroots leadership in all 435 congressional districts to ensure that their message is heard loudly and clearly by elected officials all across America. In October 1979, LGBT activists from across the country marched on Washington to fight for equal rights towards all. Exactly 30 years later a new generation of equality activists will take to the National Mall and continue that fight -- and not quit until LGBT people are granted equal protection in all matters governed by civil law in all 50 states.

B-52's Photo Coverage Part 2.

I wish to thank Bob Johnson of http://www.bittenbyazebra.com/ for the wonderful photos.

Video created and edited by: Corine Cohen http://www.corinescorner.com/

The B-52's happen to be one of my favorite bands. I hope you like the video slide show of the wonderful concert last night. Pictures are of the first three songs and sadly the concert was rained out after that. It was a great show and I hope to see the B-52's back in New York soon.

Corine Dana Cohen (Sad I did not get to hear my two favorite songs ROCK LOBSTER and LOVE SHACK)(BANG BANG!)

PHOTO COVERAGE THE B-52'S AT GOVERNORS ISLAND!

The B-52's at Governors Island presented by the HIGHLAND BALLROOM.

The B-52's are one of my favorite bands of all time. Covering this concert was the opportunity of a lifetime and the band are as good as I remember. It was an incredible evening until Mother Nature frowned on the event and a major storm occurred and cancelled the rest of the show.

The 50 minutes of the concert was so good that the rain, thunder and light show did not dampen my spirits. I wish I could use the music of the incredible band but don't have permission to do so so please watch this film and put Rock Lobster in or Love Shack as you watch it.

Part 2 will be coming soon so stay tuned.

I am hoping that they reschedule the concert and come back to NYC soon. They are loved.

INTERVIEW WITH DAVID BOLOGNA FROM BILLY ELLIOT.

I interviewed David Bologna who plays Michael in BILLY ELLIOT on Broadway.

I saw BILLY ELLIOT two times and both times it made me smile, cry and cheer. I adore this show and hope you will go and see it. David and the rest of the cast are outstanding!

Billy Elliot is a must see for anyone who adores brilliant, endearing, musical theatre with a message. It is one of the best Broadway shows I have seen in years. - Corine Cohen

It is also Elton John's finest work. ( And I am a huge fan of Sir Elton John, especially his GOODBYE YELLOW BRICK ROAD record!)

MATTHEW MORRISON IN BRYANT PARK.

Matthew Morrison who is best known for theatre.

Hairspray, Light In The Piazza and South Pacific.

He has also done many plays. In September, he will have a major role in the new TV show GLEE.

I give Matt a lot of credit performing in the heavy rain. It was coming down very heavy at times and I had one hand holding the camera and another hand holding an umbrella so I would not ruin my video camera. Sadly, at one point a rain drop or seven got on my lens and you can actually see it. Wild stuff. Sad that it had to happen today.

RAIN DROPS KEPT FALLING ON MY LENS! EEK!

Hope you enjoy the video and try to ignore the rain drops that kept falling on my camera.

METROPOLITAN ROOM!

PICKED FOR “METROSTAR TALENT CHALLENGE” SEMIFINALS

METROPOLITAN ROOM'S 8-WEEK SINGERS' COMPETITION NARROWS FIELD EN ROUTE TO AUGUST 31 FINALE

On Monday 10 quarterfinalists performed for a very live audience at The Metropolitan Room as week 5 of the "MetroStar Talent Challenge," an eight-week jury and audience-voted singers' competition, reached a rousing climax. The five semifinalists who will go head to head next Monday, August 17, are Cornelius Bates, Liz Lark Brown, Carole Bufford, Danielle Grabianowski, and David Gurland.

Lennie Watts, in his role as host and pressure-reducer, kept the proceedings running good-naturedly as the audience consistently broke out into spirited ovations. On hand as judges were the critic Roy Sander, who serves as the contest’s jury chairman, and visiting judges Allan Harris, Julie Reyburn, and Ricky Ritzel. Next week’s visiting celebrity jurists will be the television host and performer Bill Boggs and the actor Jay Rogers.

A career-boosting prize package worth over $15,000 will be awarded to the competition’s grand prize-winner and two runner-ups on Monday August 31. (The three finalists, who will be picked from among the five semifinalists after next Monday’s show, will go head to head in two rounds of finals, on August 24 and 31.) For the grand prize winner the Metropolitan Room will produce and present a week-long, prime-time engagement in the winter, plus a multi-track "Live at The Metropolitan Room" recording of the new show. The runner-ups will open for the winner and receive demo recordings of their appearances.

Open to performers of all ages and backgrounds who have not played a major engagement at The Metropolitan Room, "MetroStar" is encouraging singers to present well-rounded stage performances in which creativity, innovation and authenticity are prized over vocal fireworks.

For all the latest "MetroStar Talent Challenge" information, consult the club's Web site at www.metropolitanroom.com All shows are at 7pm. The cover charge for all shows is $20, with a two-drink minimum. Rated "Best of New York" by New York Magazine, the Nightlife and Bistro Award-winning Metropolitan Room, 34 West 22nd Street, celebrated its third anniversary in May.

ENTIRE CAST & ALL-STAR BAND OF
“H A I R”
TO APPEAR ON
ABC’S “THE VIEW”

TONY AWARD-WINNING MUSICAL
WILL BE THE LARGEST BROADWAY CAST APPEARANCE IN HISTORY OF “THE VIEW”

New York, NY (8/3/2009) – The complete cast, all-star band and crew of HAIR will give a performance from the Tony Award-winning musical live on ABC’s “The View” on Wednesday, August 5th. This performance will be the largest Broadway cast appearance in the history of “The View,” and will take place during season finale week before the show breaks for its summer hiatus.

Whoopi Goldberg, “The View” moderator, commented, “I can’t think of any better way to head into our hiatus then with the cast of Hair. That odd voice you may hear singing on the side will be me.”

“The View” airs weekdays from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon EST on ABC.

The HAIR performance on “The View” will follow a handful of other memorable national television appearances including, most recently, a performance on “The Tonight Show” for which the cast and band traveled to Los Angeles on their day off on Monday, July 13th.

The story of a group of young Americans searching for love and peace during the Vietnam era, HAIR is a timeless portrait of a movement that changed the world. Its groundbreaking rock score paved the way for some of the greatest musicals of our time. Now, the "Age of Aquarius" dawns again in this jubilant new production, which is the winner of the 2009 Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical. The Drama Desk, Drama League, and Outer Critics Circle also recently honored the production with their 2009 award for Outstanding Revival of a Musical. Directed by Diane Paulus and choreographed by Karole Armitage, HAIR features a book and lyrics by Gerome Ragni and James Rado and music by Galt MacDermot. HAIR began preview performances on March 6 at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre (302 West 45th Street, NYC) and opened to rave reviews on March 31, 2009.

The full cast of HAIR includes Sasha Allen, Ato Blankson-Wood, Steel Burkhardt, Jackie Burns, Briana Carlson-Goodman, Allison Case, Gavin Creel, Matt DeAngelis, Lauren Elder, Allison Guinn, Chasten Harmon, Anthony Hollock, Jay Armstrong Johnson, Kaitlin Kiyan, Andrew Kober, Josh Lamon, Megan Lawrence, Caissie Levy, Nicole Lewis, Ryan Link, John Moauro, Darius Nichols, Brandon Pearson, Paris Remillard, Megan Reinking, Arbender Robinson, Bryce Ryness, Michael James Scott, Saycon Sengbloh, Hannah Shankman, Maya Sharpe, Kacie Sheik, Will Swenson and Tommar Wilson.

The all-star band for HAIR includes Steve Bargonetti, Wilbur Bascomb, Elaine Burt, Ronald Buttacavoli, JoeCardello, Nadia DiGiallonardo, Lon Hoyt, Christian Jaudes, Vincent MacDermot, Bernard Purdie, Andrew Schwartz and Allen Won.

The creative team also includes Scott Pask (scenic design), Michael McDonald (costume design), Kevin Adams (lighting design) and Acme Sound Partners (sound design).

Ghostlight Records’ New Broadway Cast Recording of HAIR has just been released and is currently available in stores and on iTunes.
