BROADWAY BY THE YEAR!

DIRECTED BY EMILY SKINNER,

STARRING JEFF McCARTHY, TERRI KLAUSNER, NOAH RACEY, AND MORE

MONDAY, JUNE 16 AT 8PM

The Town Hall is pleased to present the final production of its 2007-2008 Broadway by the Year series with Broadway by the Year 1979 on Monday, June 16th at 8PM says Executive and Artistic Director Lawrence Zucker. Broadway By The Year is created, written and hosted by Scott Siegel for The Town Hall, now in it's 8th season.

After the first three sold-out concerts, Broadway by the Year continues its year of unparalleled entertainment with this last show of the season. Broadway by the Year 1979 is directed by Emily Skinner and choreographed by Noah Racey, who both star in the show. Terri Klausner and Jeff McCarthy also share the bill, in addition to many other stars that are soon to be announced.

The Broadway by the Year concerts have become, in the words of Variety critic Robert L. Daniels, "a proverbial hot ticket." Scott Siegel, the writer and host of The Town Hall program, takes the audience on a musical travelogue, exploring the history of the Great White Way and showcasing the beloved hits and lesser-known gems from yesteryear, starring today's great Broadway talent.

The evening will feature excerpts from the Broadway shows of 1979 including Evita Sweeney Todd, They're Playing Our Song, I Remember Mama, The Grand Tour, Sarava, AND MORE. It will also reunite two stars from the cult favorite musical Side Show: Emily Skinner and Jeff McCarthy (Chicago/Urinetown). In addition, Terry Klausner will remind audiences why she was hired to play Eva Peron twice a week in the original cast of Evita.

Built in 1921 by a group of suffragettes, The Town Hall began as a lecture hall and public forum for debates. Over the decades, Eleanor Roosevelt, Margaret Sanger, Billie Holiday, Igor Stravinsky, Bob Dylan and Miles Davis have graced the stage. Today the hall flourishes as a popular, affordable venue, boasting the hottest acts in rock, pop, folk, cabaret, world music, comedy and dance, including Billy Joel, Blondie, Elvis Costello, Natalie Merchant, Graham Nash, Liza Minnelli, Cyndi Lauper, Norah Jones, Andre Watts, Henry Rollins, Joe Jackson, Pink Martini, Regina Spector, Brian Adams, Aimee Mann and Dawn Upshaw. For over a decade, The Town Hall has hosted live broadcasts of Garrison Keillor's Prairie Home Companion. Over the past two-and-a-half decades, The Town Hall has produced a number of new and critically acclaimed musical series, which include The Century of Change, Not Just Jazz, Broadway by the Year® and The Broadway Cabaret Festival.

Scott Siegel has created two acclaimed and popular series for The Town Hall: the critically acclaimed Broadway By the Year, now in its eighth season, and the Broadway Cabaret Festival. Mr. Siegel also conceived and produces both Broadway Unplugged and The Nightlife Awards at The Town Hall, and is currently in his tenth year as host of The Town Hall Feature Film Series. Scott and his wife Barbara are authors (47 books, including The Encyclopedia of Hollywood) and critics ("The Siegel Column" and "The Two of Clubs").
