Straight Up With A Twist

Following sold-out runs in Los Angeles and Chicago, Millrock will present the off-Broadway New York premiere of the award-winning comedy Straight Up with a Twist, written & performed by Paul Stroili, and directed by Bill Penton. Previews begin Thursday, January 17, with the opening set for Thursday, January 24, 2008

Straight Up with a Twist takes a look at one family, as they try to figure out a straight guy who says: "Don’t call my house during the football game…that’s when I vacuum!" Paul Stroili portrays his Bronx-born mother, his Italian father, his Goombah brother, and a host of other characters who struggle to understand a straight guy who “can’t work power tools, but can perfectly fold a fitted sheet.”

Paul Stroili’s film and TV credits include “Malcolm in the Middle,” “Brother’s Keeper,” “The Untouchables,” “Cold Justice” and the pilot, “Help Me.” His stage credits include A Christmas Twist and Of Grapes and Nuts (ACE Award-winners), Laughter on the 23rd Floor, Lovers and Keepers, Sister Bernie’s Bingo Bash, Dark Ride and Vinnie Black in the original Chicago production of Tony ‘n Tina’s Wedding. As a writer, Paul’s credits include Cheese Louise, My Dinner with Arlecchino, The Day the Arts Stood Still and of course, Straight Up with a Twist (plays). He has also written for Los Angeles Magazine and the Chicago Tribune, and is currently working on his next play, On the Rocks.

Millrock is a Los Angeles based producing entity created by David & Hyra George, who have spent the last 20 years designing and producing entertainment and corporate events across the US, Europe and Asia with their production company, George & Goldberg Design Associates.

Nominated for a Los Angeles Ovation Award and two LA Weekly Awards, and the recipient of an Orange County Weekly Award, Straight Up with a Twist prompted The Hollywood Reporter to say that “The talented and sophisticated Stroili hilariously embodies all the characters in his vibrant life. His performance is engaging, thoughtful and full of rich humor.”
