BROADWAY CELEBRATES THE END OF THE 2006-2007 SEASON AT THE 21ST ANNUAL STARS IN THE ALLEY® PRESENTED BY CONTINENTAL AIRLINES

SPRING AWAKENING AND CORAM BOY WIN THE FIRST-EVER BROADWAY
FAN FAVORITE PRESENTED BY “GREASE” REALITY SHOW FAN FAVORITES MAX CRUMM (“DANNY”) AND LAURA OSNES (“SANDY”)



(New York, NY – June 6, 2007) – Broadway gave its regards to fans today when the biggest stars come together for Stars in the Alley®, held in historic Shubert Alley on Wednesday, June 6. Presented by Continental Airlines, Stars in the Alley is a free annual concert produced by The League of American Theatres & Producers, Inc. that brings together stars from current Broadway productions to celebrate the end of the season.




Stars in the Alley featured performances and special appearances by Broadway’s most popular musicals and plays, including Tony Award® winners and nominees. Participating shows include: Beauty and the Beast, Chicago, Company, Curtains, The Drowsy Chaperone, Grey Gardens, Hairspray, Jersey Boys, Journey's End, Legally Blonde The Musical, Les Misérables, The Lion King, Mamma Mia!, Monty Python's Spamalot, A Moon for the Misbegotten, The Phantom of the Opera, The Pirate Queen, Radio Golf, Rent, Spring Awakening, Tarzan, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, and Xanadu.

Among the celebrities present, representing their respective shows, were Ashley Parker Angel, Tamyra Gray, Swoosie Kurtz, Joey Lawrence, Jerry Mathers, Martha Plimpton, Vanessa Redgrave, and Kevin Spacey.

Fan Favorite

For the first time ever Broadway fans were invited to vote online at StarsintheAlley.com for their favorite play and musical and were entered to win a “Night on Broadway” prize package. The biggest vote-getters earned the title of “Fan Favorite” at this year’s concert. The winner in the musical category was SPRING AWAKENING, while CORAM BOY won in the play category. Fresh off their win from NBC’s talent competition series Grease: You’re the One That I Want!, Max Crumm and Laura Osnes presented the Fan Favorite Musical and Play. Max and Laura were voted the favorite “Danny” and “Sandy” by America and will star in the new production of GREASE opening on Broadway August 19th.

The Star Award

This year the annual Star Award, which recognizes an individual or organization in public service who has demonstrated significant support for Broadway, was presented to The Actor’s Fund of America to honor the Fund’s 125th Anniversary. Executive Director Joe Benincasa accepted on behalf of the organization.
