Kelly Bishop and Karen Ziemba
(Video interviews will be up in a week)

(Photo of Artist Jessica Daryl Winer)
It was a wonderful evening. I got to interview Karen Ziemba! (Someone I have always admired and never had the chance to interview.)

I first met Karen on the 104 bus and we chatted about her role in Encores Pajama Game. I remembered how incredibly sweet and gracious she was. Well, tonight I got to interview her on camera. I will post the video soon.

In addition, I interviewed the original Shiela in A CHORUS LINE tonight. Her name is Kelly Bishop. She told me about her role in DIRTY DANCING (The film)
A CHORUS LINE and about her career. She was a fascinating interview so come back soon.

Photos will be coming in a few hours.

Stay tuned.

I went to the event on a walker and it was hard but I am out there again.
I will never stop, not even for a minute.

Theater is my passion and this event made me realize how lucky I am.

GOLDEN GLOBE NOMINEE
LAUREN GRAHAM
TO STAR AS "MISS ADELAIDE" OPPOSITE
OLIVER PLATT'S "NATHAN DETROIT"
IN THE AMERICAN MUSICAL COMEDY MASTERPIECE
GUYS AND DOLLS

PREVIEWS BEGIN FEBRUARY 3, 2009
OPENING NIGHT IS MARCH 1
AT BROADWAY'S NEDERLANDER THEATRE
(New York, NY - October 28, 2008) Lead producer Howard Panter for Ambassador Theatre Group and co-producers Tulchin/Bartner and Darren Bagert announced today that LAUREN GRAHAM (Golden Globe Award nominee for "Gilmore Girls") will appear as "Miss Adelaide" opposite Oliver Platt's "Nathan Detroit" in the new Broadway production of GUYS AND DOLLS. The first joint Broadway project by two-time Tony Award winning director DES McANUFF and Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Award nominated choreographer SERGIO TRUJILLO since their collaboration on the Tony Award winning musical Jersey Boys, GUYS AND DOLLS will begin previews on February 3, 2009 at Broadway's newly refurbished Nederlander Theatre (208 West 41st Street). Opening Night is March 1.

"We are thrilled with the casting of Lauren as Miss Adelaide. She is the perfect combination of leading lady and natural comedienne and I know she will be the ideal romantic foil for Oliver Platt's Nathan," said lead producer Howard Panter. "To be making my Broadway debut in this role, in this musical, is truly thrilling," said Ms. Graham.

LAUREN GRAHAM is well known for her critically acclaimed performance as Lorelai Gilmore on "Gilmore Girls," for which she was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for "Best Actress in a Drama Series," two Screen Actors Guild Awards for "Outstanding Female Actor in a Drama Series" and two Television Critics Association Awards for "Individual Achievement in Drama and Comedy." Additionally, she has earned two Teen Choice Awards for "Choice Parental Unit" and a "Best Actress" nod from Viewers for Quality Television. Her many feature film roles include the current Flash of Genius opposite Greg Kinnear for Universal and Spyglass Entertainment, as well as Universal's blockbuster comedy Evan Almighty, alongside Steve Carell, Because I Said So, opposite Diane Keaton and Mandy Moore, Bad Santa, opposite Billy Bob Thornton, The Pacifier, The Amateurs with Jeff Bridges, Nightwatch, and One True Thing, with Renee Zellweger and Meryl Streep. She recently starred alongside Matthew Perry and Hillary Swank in Birds of America, which premiered this January at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival, and completed production on The Dream of the Romans, starring Jeff Daniels. She last appeared onstage in 2002 in the Williamstown Theatre Festival production of Once in a Lifetime.

Based on "The Idyll of Miss Sarah Brown" and "Blood Pressure," two short stories by Damon Runyon, it also borrows characters and plot elements from other Runyon stories, most notably "Pick the Winner".

The musical comedy was first produced on Broadway at the 46th Street Theatre, opening on November 24, 1950. It was directed by George S. Kaufman and starred Robert Alda, Sam Levene, Isabel Bigley and Vivian Blaine. The musical enjoyed an initial run of 1,201 performances, winning five 1951 Tony Awards including Best Musical.

His upcoming projects include both The Adams Family and Memphis, both for Broadway.

FRANK LOESSER (Music and Lyrics) has been called the most versatile of all Broadway composers. His five Broadway musicals, each a unique contribution to the art of the American musical theatre, were as different from each other as they were from the theatre of their day: Where's Charley?, Guys And Dolls, The Most Happy Fella, Greenwillow and How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying. Long before he wrote Where's Charley?, he was already known to America from the dozens of songs that had become enormous popular hits from his Hollywood career. He had supplied lyrics to the music of such greats as Jule Styne, Hoagy Carmichael, Burton Lane and Arthur Schwartz, among others, penning such standards as "On a Slow Boat to China," "Two Sleepy People," "Heart and Soul," "I Don't Want to Walk Without You," "Spring Will Be a Little Late this Year," "(See What) The Boys in the Backroom (Will Have)," "They're Either Too Young or Too Old" and his 1948 Academy Award winner, "Baby, It's Cold Outside." In a few short years, Frank Loesser forged only five Broadway musicals, but the Loesser impact continues to be seismic. In recent years, there have been major revivals of The Most Happy Fella, both on Broadway and at the New York City Opera (added to their permanent repertory); Guys and Dolls won the 1992 Tony Award for Best Revival and was a smash hit on Broadway all over again, running three years and becoming the longest running revival ever on Broadway; and How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying opened on Broadway in 1995, with Matthew Broderick starring, and became another long running hit.

JO SWERLING (Book) Born in Bardichov, Russia, Swerling was a refugee of the Czarist regime who grew up on New York City's lower East Side, where he sold newspapers to help support his family. He worked as a newspaper and magazine writer in the early 1920s, then launched a playwriting career, including Street Cinderella, an early comedy for the Marx Brothers. He also wrote their first movie, the unreleased silent comedy Humor Risk in 1921. He scored a major success with the book and lyrics for the 1927 musical revue The New Yorkers and the 1929 play The Kibitzer, which he co-wrote with actor Edward G. Robinson. Swerling was brought to Hollywood by Columbia Pictures chief Harry Cohn to work on the screenplay for the Frank Capra picture, Ladies of Leisure, the first of several collaborations with the director. His dozens of screenplays in the 1930s and 40s include Platinum Blonde, Behind the Mask, Once to Every Woman, The Pride of the Yankees (for which he received an Academy Award nomination), Lifeboat, Leave Her to Heaven, and It's a Wonderful Life. He also provided some uncredited writing for the Gone with the Wind screenplay.

ABE BURROWS (Book) Born Abram Solman Borowitz in New York City, Burrows graduated New Utrecht High School in Brooklyn and later attended both City College and New York University. He began working as a runner on Wall Street while at NYU, and he also worked in an accounting firm. After he met Frank Galen in 1938, the two wrote and sold jokes to an impressionist who appeared on the Rudy Vallée radio program. Eventually, Burrows wrote, doctored, or directed such shows as Make a Wish, Two on the Aisle, Three Wishes for Jamie, Say, Darling, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, Cactus Flower, Can-Can, Silk Stockings, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Good News (1974 revival), and many others. With his collaborator Frank Loesser, Burrows won a Pulitzer Prize for How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.

THE SAD STATE OF BROADWAY TODAY.

The economy has greatly hurt the theater scene today. I am very upset that many of Broadway and Off Broadway shows are closing because of the economy. I would urge you to see the following shows before they close.

HAIRSPRAY- The Tony award winning smash that has been playing a very long run will bring back Harvey Fierstein on November 11th.

Forbidden Broadway- For 27 years, Forbidden Broadway has entertained passionate broadway fans with the best spoofs of our favorite shows. Go and see Forbidden Broadway Goes To Rehab till January 15th. It is not to be missed if you love Broadway and can understand the jokes. Even if you don't get some of the insider jokes you will still be entertained.

Spring Awakening- Last years Tony Award winning brilliant winner. It is a must see for anyone who can appreciate the brilliance of Dunkin Sheik's sound. One of my favorite shows in current years.

Spamalot- A must for anyone who loves farce. Always look on the bright side of life.

I am sad to see all of these wonderful shows closing. It would be in your best interest to see all of them.

Corine Cohen

PS These shows will be missed. Especially, Forbidden Broadway which has been my favorite show for 27 wonderful years.

FORBIDDEN BROADWAY GOES TO REHAB.

As many of you know I broke my ankle in late August and had three operations. Two of which were medically needed. It has been a very tough time for me. I spent 14 days in the hospital and ten days in a rehab center so I could learn to walk. (Not the same kind of rehab center you might be thinking!)

I have been stuck inside my home for a month and had my first excursion at the theater. I even walked up and down several steps. (It was very scary but I did it!!!!)

This show was wonderful. I loved the cast even if I missed Jared Bradshaw. James Donegan is very talented and did a great job as Cheyenne Jackson and as Sondheim.

Bianco's "Glitter and be glib" has become my favorite new number in the show. I just can't believe how talented she is. She captures Chenoweth's chest voice and gorgeous opera voice and even sounds better than Cheno herself. She should be the next Glinda in Wicked! She is a triple threat and deserves a Broadway role after Jan 15th!

I saw Bianco's first performance and she is one of the most talented performers in the show in the entire 27 years it is running. She is so funny and captures each role to such perfection. Her Cheno is the best but every other role is just as perfect.

Gina's LuPone is also right on as well as her Liza impersonations.

Michael West cracks me up in every role he plays. I love his monkey in the Wicked number, it just blows my mind. He is also hysterical in the South Pacific as a tiny child with intense muscles. (His muscles make me blush) I also love his Harvey Fierstein- I adore Harvey and he captures his Edna Turnblad. I adore Michael West and hope he can bring back his one man show in the Winter. My favorite new role that Michael plays is Lin Manuel Miranda from In The Heights. Word!

Rehab made all of my intense pain go away. It made me happy to be alive.

If you love Broadway there is no show as wonderful as Forbidden Broadway.

Corine Cohen

PS It is a very sad time on Broadway this season. All of the great Broadway and Off Broadway shows are closing. Forbidden Broadway is closing January 15 and I really wish there was someway to stop it. Thanks for 27 years of laughter. Thanks for the talkbacks. The videos. The joy. I love the show and everyone involved over the years.
It breaks my heart that this show is closing and if I can help it, it will never close.

I love you, Forbidden Broadway.

I WALKED UP STEPS.

Hello,

This must sound silly but I was so happy that I walked up steps today at Physical Therapy. It means I can walk the steps of my favorite show Forbidden Broadway. Whoo whoo.

Anyway, my ankle has very little movement but I am getting a bit stronger with each exercise and day. I even used one crutch today and walked five blocks with my walker.

Where do I want to go next kids.... FORBIDDEN BROADWAY.

Toodles.

BAMBOO 52. HAIRSPRAY.

So, I was very lucky to get out today. I went to Bamboo 52 for the first time since my accident. I really enjoyed the fabulous sushi and getting out.

The good news. I purchased tickets for Harvey's first performance in HAIRSPRAY on November 11th. I can't wait. I will be sitting in a wheel chair but I will be dancing to the beat in the chair.

Not walking will not stop my beat.

GET READY BROADWAY I WILL BE BACK THIS WEEK~!

Good news, Corner fans. I spent four hours waiting for my Doctor today. Yes. Four hours. I will be able to put weight on my foot which means I will be at the theater very soon and back doing videos.

I am going to have a long recovery but I plan on doing some new video coverage in the next few days.

Stay tuned.

I might have a video feature in my apt. No comments from the peanut gallery.

Don't break a leg.

PS I have not seen a show since the middle of August and I plan on learning how to walk steps soon as I have a few shows that I need to attend. Avenue Q and Forbidden Broadway here I come.

JEFFRY DENMAN, BOBBY STEGGERT, JACK NOSEWORTHY,

AND SPECIAL GUEST STAR MARNI NIXON

JOIN COLM WILKINSON IN HIS TOWN HALL DEBUT

THREE-DAY WEEKEND OF

BROADWAY STARS & BROADWAY SONGS

OCTOBER 17th, 18th and 19th

The critically acclaimed Broadway Cabaret Festival continues to add more stars to its weekend lineup of concerts. It was announced today that on Friday, October 17 at 8PM when Town Hall (123 West 43rd Street) presents a concert Tribute to Lerner & Loewe, Jeffry Denman (Irving Berlin’s White Christmas) will direct, choreograph and star. He will be joined by such other Broadway luminaries as Robert Cuccioli (Jekyll & Hyde), Julia Murney (Wicked), Alexander Gemignani (Road Show), Daniel Reichard (Jersey Boys), Ron Bohmer (Woman in White), Jack Noseworthy (Sweet Smell of Success), Sarah Jane McMahon (The Pirates of Penzance), Jim Caruso (Liza Minnelli on Tour) and Special Guest Star Marni Nixon (the singing voice of Audrey Hepburn in Lerner & Loewe’s My Fair Lady).

The creator/writer/host of the Broadway Cabaret Festival, Scott Siegel, said in a statement, “If you love the classic Broadway music of Lerner & Loewe, you will have a ‘loverly’ time at Town Hall on October 17th. There will be plenty of thrilling Broadway dance courtesy of Jeffry Denman and his troupe of dancer/singers, plus performances by some of the most exciting stars of the Great White Way, including Robert Cuccioli, Daniel Reichard, Alexander Gemignani, and Julia Murney. And that’s just the first night of the Festival!”

Colm Wilkinson, the world’s original Jean Valjean, returns to the New York stage for one day more on Saturday, October 18th at 8PM in Broadway & Beyond. Wilkinson will sing an eclectic program ranging from Broadway favorites by Rodgers & Hammerstein and Andrew Lloyd Webber to popular standards by Ray Charles, Leonard Cohen, Muddy Waters and John Lennon. In this exclusive one night only performance, Wilkinson will be backed by a nine-piece orchestra lead by music director Steve Hunter. This long-awaited and much anticipated return to Broadway is the centerpiece of this year’s Broadway Cabaret Festival. About it, Scott Siegel said, “Colm Wilkinson is arguably the greatest singer to have appeared on Broadway in the last quarter century. Town Hall is proud to ‘Bring Him Home’ to Broadway.”

The Broadway Cabaret Festival concludes on Sunday, October 19th at 3 PM with the 4th edition of its celebrated concert Broadway Originals! This year, stars from four decades of Broadway history will take the Town Hall stage to perform songs they originated on Broadway or brought back to life in the original cast of a revival. Just a sampling of the approximately twenty stars who will perform are: Robert Cuccioli (Jekyll & Hyde), Alice Ripley (Rocky Horror, The Dead, Side Show, etc.), Alli Mauzey (Cry-Baby), Karen Morrow (I Had a Ball), Stephen Mo Hanan (Cats), Lucie Arnaz (They’re Playing Our Song), D’Jamin Bartlett (A Little Night Music), Pam Myers (Company), Chuck Cooper (Caroline or Change), Bobby Steggert (110 in the Shade), and more!

“This is always one of the most exciting and emotionally satisfying concerts of the year,” said Siegel. “The combination of Broadway history, great music, and brilliant stars of yesterday and today never fails to create an unforgettable concert. I’m particularly delighted to welcome the Tony nominated star of Jekyll & Hyde, Robert Cuccioli, to the Town Hall stage in both the Tribute to Lerner & Loewe concert on Friday and the Broadway Originals! concert on Sunday. As is the case with many of these stars, I’ve been trying to get them for years and I’m thrilled that this year we were able to get such incredible stars as Alice Ripley, Karen Morrow, and Lucie Arnaz. Among recent Broadway standouts, it’s a kick to get Bobby Steggert from the recent revival of 110 in the Shade and Alli Mauzey from Cry Baby, both of whom made major impressions in their featured roles.”

This all Broadway weekend will take place at historic Town Hall, 123 West 43rd Street between Broadway and Sixth Avenue. Tickets can still be bought either for individual shows ($55 per show) or you can subscribe to the entire weekend ($150 – save $15 and get choice seats). Individual tickets are available at the Box Office or through TicketMaster at 212-307-4100 or at TicketMaster.com. For subscriptions, call 212-997-1003.

TAKE OUT TALK. MY NEW RESTAURANT REVIEWS FOR TAKEOUT.

As many of you know, I broke my ankle in August and have been through a lot! Until I get better I am starting a new section called TAKE OUT TALK. Reviews from restaurants that deliver in NYC.

My first review will be for a new restaurant that opened a month ago. It is called FUSHA, and it is located at 311 Amsterdam Avenue off of 75th street.

I got a menu under my door and was delighted. Bo Lee was nice enough to send me a few samples for this piece.

I tried a spicy tuna roll which was very good. The key for me is less rice and more fish and this roll did not disappoint me. It was very spicy and full of fresh tuna.

I also had a shrimp tempura roll with a hint of ginger and mayo. The roll was excellent. It was my first tempura roll in months and it made my day. The shrimp was wonderful.

The best thing I tried at the restaurant was the Fusha style ceviche. It was full of cilantro, shrimp and was the best thing I have consumed in months.

Order the Fusha style ceviche (12) and try the shrimp tempura roll (8) The spicy tuna (6.75)(Good but a bit soggy, it is probably better at the restaurant)

Stay tuned for more take out reviews, coming soon.

An Interesting Break The Fast!

Because of my broken ankle I could not go to my Sisters in New Jersey for the wonderful nova, whitefish salad and traditional feast.

As I have said before I am a cultural person just not a religious person.

This was a first. I had pizza with a friend in my apt and it was great.

We ordered Dominos thin crust pepperoni pizza and I never thought it would be good.
It is so thin and crispy and it was delish. I loved it.

Dominos, who knew. In addition I caught the film Hairspray on my expanded cable.

I got every pay channel as I have been captive in my apt with my injury and seeing the film was wonderful. (It is not Broadway, but it was great to see an old favorite.)

I am actually warming up to Travolta (NOT!)

Hairspray rules. It was wonderful.

NYC IS NOT FAIR TO THE OLD AND HANDICAPPED.

Did you know that if you break an ankle and can't walk it is hard to do simple things?

Did you know that my two favorite stores wont do phone orders to my house so I can eat? It's true. FAIRWAY nor TRADER JOE'S do phone orders. You need to go there, pay for it in order to get it delivered. It sucks if you can't get there.

This just blows my mind. The only thing I can get delivered is chinese and japanese food but most of my favorite restaurants are out of my delivery range.

Something should be done about this. I'm hungry and angry and really surprised that there is no way for me to get my favorite foods delivered. This is NYC.

If anyone is out there I would gladly pay you to shop for me at Trader Joe's and Fairway markets.

Life blows.

DON'T BREAK A LEG- BROADWAY!

DON'T BREAK A LEG BROADWAY-

Breaking my ankle has changed my life. I used to take things for granted. I never saw how lucky I was. My slogan was "IT SUCKS TO BE ME." Which is not true.

When you break a leg, bone or ankle you lose freedom. Freedom to take care of yourself. Freedom to buy food. Freedom to go out and run errands. Freedom to walk. Freedom to run. Freedom to drink.

FREEDOM. I am sad to report that I broke two bones in my ankle and it has been a real life changing journey for me. I have grown but it has been a very tragic challenge.

I would like to change the slogan "Break a leg" to "Don't break a leg" because it is awful to be trapped in an apt not being able to get back to your life.

Don't break a leg.

I need someone for 1 hour three times a week to walk me to and from physical therapy, The Doctor etc. I am looking for an adult who loves theatre. In addition,
the person could take me to theater and take my second ticket if they took me there and back.
