First formed as the “Versatiles” back in 1965, The 5th Dimension – Florence LaRue, Willie Williams, Leonard Tucker, Michael Mishaw and Valerie David -- changed its name at the request of “Johnny Rivers,” who had just signed them to his brand new label “Soul City.” Their music was distinguished by a light, happy feel that made them the essence of “good time sound.” The rising young songwriter Jimmy Webb supplied the group with their first pop smash Up Up and Away in 1967, and the group’s monumental rise mirrored the song’s high-flying imagery. Another prolific composer, Laura Nyro, handed the group several mega-hits, notably Stoned Soul Picnic, Wedding Bell Blues. and Blowing Away. Their biggest seller hailed from the groundbreaking musical “Hair:” the Grammy-winning Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In held the number one slot on the pop charts for six weeks. They have released over a dozen hit albums and received 14 gold records and six platinum records, and their long list of other hits include Last Night I Didn’t Get to Sleep and Puppet Man.

The 5th Dimension tours throughout the world, and their itinerary includes performances with prestigious symphony orchestras. They have appeared on the top national television shows and also have been the subject of PBS specials.

Upcoming Town Hall presentations include: on April 20, the Grass Roots and Lovin’ Spoonful in an exclusive New York appearance; on April 27, the East Village Opera Company; on April 30, The Broadway Musicals of 1959; on June 9, I got Rhythm: Mickey and Judy’s Hollywood; and on June 18, The Broadway Musicals of 1964, Part II.
