Corine's Cooking Corner-

Hello,

I wanted to start a new weekly segment: CORINE'S COOKING CORNER where I will give a new tip for staying in.
The economy is bad so I am cutting back and eating in more. Tonight, I created a great sangria which was almost as good as getting it out.

CORINE'S PASSIONFRUIT GUAVA SANGRIA

1 Start with a bottle of pinot noir.

Pour one glass of pinot into a pitcher.
Add one glass of minute maid fruit punch (15 calorie Raspberry Passionfruit works best) and one glass of guava nectar.
Mix with two ice cube trays of ice.

Add fresh orange, strawberries, cherries and canned or fresh pineapple wedges, Also works well without fruit.

CHILL AND STIR WELL.

Pour into a deep wine glass. Delish!

Pair the sangria with fun appetizers for your guests. I made it for myself and really enjoyed it.

Cheers,

Corine Cohen

DAVY JONES FANS UNITE!

Found this and made me blush!

JACKIE HOFFMAN CD SIGNING AND PERFORMANCE.

We got the chance to see hysterical funny woman, Jackie Hoffman perform at Barnes and Noble this past week. She taunted a religious Jew who was rude and talking on his cell phone during the performance.

The nerve of some people! Who talks on a cell phone when someone is singing.
Jackie put him in his place and she was hysterical as usual.

This video was a spur of the moment thing. I bought tickets to see DAVY JONES on his tour at the Times Square Arts Center. Davy is performing a tour all over the Country.
His concert took place this past week. It was a huge honor to spend 10 minutes with the one and only Davy Jones who was very funny and very nice to grant me the interview.

PHOTO COVERAGE DAVY JONES IN TIMES SQUARE!

I was really excited tonight. I got to interview one of my favorite performers.
As a kid, my Dad and I loved to watch the Monkees. I also loved the episode on the Brady Bunch with Davy Jones. He was the first man I had a crush on and tonight I got the opportunity to interview him on video.

Photos by Bob Johnson. Bob will be posting a video in the next few days and I can't wait to see it. Meeting Davy was really exciting. I am a huge fan from age 3 and am a bigger fan now. Yes, I am a believer.

PS What was interesting is Davy told me that the guys from the Monkees are not real friends. They don't hang out and go for a beer he said. Sad to hear that. I do think Davy is a very nice guy and interviewing him was thrilling. He is as adorable as he was in his youth. He is 62 and fab!

The concert was at the Times Square Arts Center and Davy sang all of the Monkees hits
Daydream Believer, I'm a Believer, Stepping Stone... It was a great trip down memory lane and to make the evening a total success Joe Franklin was in the audience.

Davy told me that he starred in OLIVER in the early 60's before he was discovered to be part of the Monkees. I need to get all of the Monkees music again. My collection was on 8 TRACK if you can believe that.

BILLY ELLIOTT- A REASON TO DANCE FOR JOY!

I went to a wonderful new show on Broadway that every reader should see. If there is one show this season that you need to see it is Billy Elliott. Billy Elliott made me happy to be at a Broadway theater. It is for anyone that is thrilled by incredible dancing. It also has a giant heart and wonderful story.

Billy, who takes boxing lessions and never really had a passion for boxing but always had a passion for dance ends up taking ballet classes and falls in love with dance. In the process he finds out that dance makes him complete. His Mother died when he was a baby and is raised by his Grandmother and Father who are poor miners.

I was charmed by the adorable Ballerina children and the heart of this inspired and brilliant work. If you have the money to see one new show this season I would tell you to see Billy Elliott.

Billy Elliott is something to cheer about!

THE STORY OF MY LIFE

A NEW MUSICAL

MUSIC & LYRICS BY NEIL BARTRAM BOOK BY BRIAN HILL

PERFORMANCES BEGIN ON BROADWAY AT THE BOOTH THEATRE

FEBRUARY 3, 2009

OPENING NIGHT, FEBRUARY 19, 2009

www.thestoryofmylifeonbroadway.com

This February, THE STORY OF MY LIFE, a new musical comes to Broadway. Starring Will Chase (Rent, Aida, The Full Monty) and Tony Award nominee Malcolm Gets (Amour, Merrily We Roll Along, “Caroline in the City”), the show is directed by Tony Award winner Richard Maltby, Jr. (Ain’t Misbehavin’, Song & Dance), THE STORY OF MY LIFE features a score by Neil Bartram and a book by Brian Hill. Performances begin Tuesday, February 3rd on Broadway at The Booth Theatre (222 West 45th Street). Opening night is Thursday, February 19th at 7:30PM.

THE STORY OF MY LIFE is a new musical about best friends who change our lives forever, the personal cost of success and the choices we make at the turning points of our lives.

Presented by Chase Mishkin and Jack M. Dalgleish, in association with Bud Martin, STORY OF MY LIFE features a scenic design by Robert Brill (Cabaret, Assassins); costume design by Wade Laboissonniere (associate designer of The Sound of Music); lighting design by Tony Award winner Ken Billington; (Sunday in the Park With George, Chicago); sound design by Carl Casella (Tale of Two Cities, Xanadu); and orchestrations by Tony, Emmy, Grammy and Academy Award winner Jonathan Tunick (A Chorus Line, Company, Into the Woods).

“We live in a time when people need something that is fun and authentic” says Malcolm Gets. “That is exactly what this musical is. It’s a universal story about friendship. It’s about the important things in our lives - relationships with people. This musical does not have a high-tech set. Instead it relies on two actors, great music and one hell of a show.”

“This is a play about family relationships, true friendship and reconnecting with the simplest and purest qualities in our lives,” says Will Chase. “Doing this production has really affected my life. It’s the first time in my career that I have done a production that inspires me to call my friends and family after the curtain call.”

This production of THE STORY OF MY LIFE comes to Broadway directly from Goodspeed Opera House’s Norma Terris Theater in Chester, Connecticut where it ran last month. THE STORY OF MY LIFE received its world premiere at The Canadian Stage Company’s Berkeley Street Theatre in Toronto Canada in 2006 before The National Alliance for Musical theatre presented the work at its 2007 Festival of new Musicals.

THE STORY OF MY LIFE, begins performances on Broadway at The Booth Theatre (222 West 45th Street, between Broadway & 8th Aves.) on Tuesday, February 3rd, 2009. HE'S ALIVE TILL JAN 4TH. YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN TO CLOSE ON JAN 4TH!

THE NEW MEL BROOKS MUSICAL YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN
TO PLAY FINAL PERFORMANCE ON BROADWAY
SUNDAY, JANUARY 4, 2009
AFTER 30 PREVIEW AND 484 REGULAR PERFORMANCES
AT THE HILTON THEATRE

The award winning The New Mel Brooks Musical Young Frankenstein will play its final performance on Broadway Sunday, January 4th at the Hilton Theatre (213 W 42nd St) after 30 previews and 484 regular performances. Young Frankenstein currently stars Roger Bart, Shuler Hensley, Beth Leavel, Fred Applegate, Cory English, Michele Ragusa, and Kelly Sullivan. For tickets and information, visit Ticketmaster.com or call (212) 307-4100.

"Once again it has been a joy to work with such tremendous talents, Mel Brooks and Susan Stroman. Young Frankenstein's magnificent creative team and cast are second to none. As anyone who has seen this stunning production can attest, it is a spectacular and extravagant musical. In these uncertain economic times, my partners and I have decided to end our run on Broadway and focus our efforts on the first national tour, which will launch in September 2009," said Young Frankenstein's lead producer, Robert F.X. Sillerman.

Young Frankenstein features a book by three-time Tony Award winner Mel Brooks and three-time Tony Award winner Thomas Meehan and music and lyrics by Brooks. Young Frankenstein is directed and choreographed by five-time Tony Award winner Susan Stroman. Musical supervision is by Glen Kelly.

Young Frankenstein was named Best Broadway Musical 2008 by the Outer Critics Circle Award and won 5 Broadway.com Audience Awards, including Favorite New Broadway Musical.

Liz Smith of the New York Post says, "Have you ever gone back to see a Broadway show and found it even BETTER than it was on opening night? SURPRISE! Roger Bart and Company have turned Young Frankenstein into a fast-paced LAUGH RIOT! The entire cast is simply TERRIFIC. Here's a show you can definitely take the kids to and still have a helluva good time, too," while Pat Collins of MY 9 News declared Young Frankenstein "a monster hit." Jeffrey Lyons of WNBC TV said "this riotously funny musical will knock you clear across 42nd Street" and Roger Friedman of Fox News called it simply, "utter genius."

Based on the Oscar-nominated smash hit 1974 film, Young Frankenstein is the wickedly inspired re-imagining of the Mary Shelley classic from the comic genius of Mel Brooks. When Frederick Frankenstein, an esteemed New York brain surgeon and professor, inherits a castle and laboratory in Transylvania from his grandfather, deranged genius Victor Von Frankenstein, he faces a dilemma. Does he continue to run from his family's tortured past or does he stay in Transylvania to carry on his grandfather's mad experiments reanimating the dead and, in the process, fall in love with his sexy lab assistant Inga?

Unfolding in the forbidding Castle Frankenstein and the foggy moors of Transylvania Heights, the show's raucous score includes "The Transylvania Mania," "He Vas My Boyfriend" and the unforgettable treatment of Irving Berlin's "Puttin' On the Ritz."

The production team includes three Tony Award winning designers of The Producers: three-time Tony Award winning set designer Robin Wagner, five-time Tony Award winning costume designer William Ivey Long and Tony Award winning lighting designer Peter Kaczorowski. Jonathan Deans is the sound designer. Two other Producers alumni complete the music

department: Tony-award winning orchestrator Doug Besterman and musical director Patrick Brady.

Young Frankenstein celebrated its 1 year anniversary on Broadway November 8, 2008. The production played its pre-Broadway engagement at Seattle's Paramount Theatre August 7th - September 1st, 2007.

Hello.

Dear Readers,

I wanted to thank the many readers who have written to me this past week to see how I am doing. I really appreciated it and I am doing a lot better.

The good news is I am no longer using a wheel chair and am trying to get around with a cane. The ankle still does not move but I am getting stronger each day. There will be much more coverage as I am able to get to the theatre on my own now and am feeling a lot better.

More video and photo coverage coming soon and thanks for the wonderful notes.

Love,
Corine

6:30 PM Signing begins

WHERE: Barnes & Noble Lincoln Triangle

1972 Broadway at 66th Street

MORE INFO: Proclaimed “the funniest woman in America” by Time Out New York, Jackie Hoffman is at her shockingly-inappropriate best on her new CD, Jackie Hoffman: Live at Joe’s Pub-- salty, saucy and uncensored. Here she leaves no comic stone unthrown, targeting everything from West Side matrons to public displays of affection, from the vagaries of show business to her own mortality. Hoffman’s unique blend of cynicism, stand up, and original songs will make you realize why her shows at Joe's Pub are the stuff of New York legend. This album is not for the warm and fuzzy, politically correct or faint of heart.

The Marvelous Wonderettes.

The Marvelous Wonderettes-

I enjoyed this show and found it very entertaining. If you love the music of the 50's and 60's you can't help but have a good time at this funny little show. There is one major problem. It seemed to copy Philip George's "SHOUT" a few seasons ago.

Everything including many of the costumes seem to be copied. It really bothered me.
If you have not seen "SHOUT" you will be in for a giant candy coated treat. If you did see the show you will miss it even more.

The show is good but the one thing it misses is the great direction and hilarious comedy of a genius named Philip George.

The cast of the Marvelous Wonderettes do the best they can with the material. They are all talented and it is worth the price of admission to see them belt out some great music.

DUNCAN SHEIK ROCKS TOWN HALL! PHOTO COVERAGE!

Last night, Bob Johnson and I went to see Duncan Sheik in concert at Town Hall.
It was a must see event. Photos are by Bob Johnson, you can also see more photos of Bob's at http://www.bittenbyazebra.com. I thank Bob for the photos and for being my videographer and video editor. Bob has been a great friend and is very talented.

The high points of the concert for me, was when Duncan sang "TOUCH ME" from Spring Awakening. When he sang it, it made me blush. I enjoyed the concert very much especially when he and Lauren Pritchard sang Spring Awakening songs.

Duncan is also releasing a new record come January so stay tuned!

Broadway Unplugged.

STARS ANNOUNCED FOR 5TH ANNUAL BROADWAY UNPLUGGED!

BROADWAY’S MARY POPPINS, ASHLEY BROWN, LEADS CAST THAT INCLUDES MARC KUDISCH, JEFF McCARTHY, MATT CAVENAUGH, CHERYL FREEMAN, CHUCK COOPER, JULIA MURNEY, WILLIAM MICHALS, CHRISTIANE NOLL, AND MORE!

On Monday, November 17th at 8 PM, The Town Hall stage will thunder with the sound of Broadway’s greatest voices in the 5th Annual Broadway Unplugged. The thunder will be provided without any microphones; we do it with just terrific singers singing great Broadway show tunes. Welcome to the concert with sound design by God!

This year’s Broadway Unplugged will feature some newcomers to this critically acclaimed concert event: Broadway’s Mary Poppins, Ashley Brown, will lend her magnificent voice to the proceedings for the first time, as will the future star of this season's revival of West Side Story, Matt Cavenaugh. Also new to the concert will be Broadway’s much-beloved Jeff McCarthy (Urinetown, Side Show, etc.), and bright voiced Broadway star Julia Murney (Wicked).

Returning are Broadway Unplugged anchors such as two time Tony Nominee Marc Kudisch, Tony Award winner Chuck Cooper, from South Pacific, William Michals, Jekyll & Hyde's Christiane Noll, Woman in White's Ron Bohmer, and the award-winning vocalist Bill Daugherty. And that’s just the beginning of what will be another stunning cast promised by the concert’s creator, Scott Siegel. “This show has, consistently, been one of the most exciting concert events that I’ve ever witnessed, either as a producer or as an audience member,” said Siegel. “Every one of these shows has been unforgettable and I have no reason to believe that the next one on November 17th will be an less spectacular.”

Broadway Unplugged is priced to be recession-proof, with a wide range of ticket prices that begin at $25 for the rear balcony (“Kudisch says that’s the best place to hear this concert.”), $50 for the front balcony, and $75 for the orchestra and loge. Tickets can be purchased through TicketMaster at 212-307-4100 or at TicketMaster.com. Tickets will become available at the Town Hall box office at 123 West 43rd Street beginning on Friday, October 19th from noon to 6 PM every day except Sunday.

For more information go to SiegelPresents.com or call 212-365-4345.

Broadway Unplugged is sponsored, in part, by The Edythe Kenner Foundation, Jill & Irwin Cohen, Edith & Ervin Drake, Barbara & Peter Leavy, Trattoria Dopo Teatro, Thoroughbred Records, and Robert Aaron and Stuart Bloom.

TALE OF TWO CITIES.

I just came back from A TALE OF TWO CITIES. I was supposed to do interviews at the opening night but was in surgery at the time.

While I can't remember most of the lyrics or the score what I can say is the casting for the show is brilliant. The entire cast have the greatest voices on Broadway and really impressed me.

James Barbour has one of the most beautiful voices on Broadway today and should win a Tony and Drama Desk nomination for his deeply passionate work. He stood out and won me over.

Aaron Lazar was sadly under used in this show. But, also gave a fantastic performance.

Devin Richards, even with his several small parts wowed me.

I did not care for the music nor the lyrics but even without it, you must see this show for the performances from the incredible cast. The cast are outstanding, the show is not.
