With 15 Drama Desk nominations I went to see 9 To 5 and was expecting a masterpiece like say Billy Elliot. Is it a masterpiece? Nope. Is it an incredible cast, catchy songs, incredible performances, funny and charming, yes!
I had a great time at Dolly Parton's new musical which is based on the film. You can't help but have a great time even though it is not the deepest plot in the World.
It does have the most talented cast and all of them work well together to stop the evil boss from hell.
The three leads are all outstanding but the funniest moments are played by some of the smaller roles (Kathy Fitzgerald of The Producers,) Karen Murphy steals the show as the lush office worker with hysterical facial expressions and Ann Harada as an office worker who wears the first pants in a different era.
Nine to Five will appeal to tourists and women who want to have a fun evening at the theater. I give it 5 out of nine stars but a 10 for effort from the very talented cast.
